History of IIT
The IIT system nearly dates back to 1946. For post-war industrial development in India, Sir Jogendra Singh (Viceroy’s Executive Council) set up a committee to create Higher Technical Institutions.
The first Indian Institute of Technology was founded in May 1950 in Kharagpur, West Bengal. The “Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)” name was adopted on 18 August 1951.
On 15 September 1956, the Parliament of India passed the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur) Act, declaring the Institute of National Importance.
How to Get Selected in IIT?
Lakhs of applicants seek admission to IIT each year. Indian Institute Of Technology conducts an entrance exam for the screening process. One has to clear two rounds of exams.
