The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) – Ranking 2021 ( Shanghai ranking) was released on 17th August according to the report IISc Bengaluru was rated the best University in India followed by Calcutta University as the second-best university in India.
Another University that made it to the top 10 in the list is Banaras Hindu University secured the third position whereas Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) ranked fourth.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Indian Institute of Technology Madras the fifth and sixth respectively. Seventh, Eighth, ninth, and tenth rank in the top 10 was secure by Jawaharlal Nehru University followed by Delhi University, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and the Vellore Institute of Technology.

The Shanghai Ranking widely known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is a report of the world university rankings, which is published annually by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
Shanghai Ranking Consultancy is an organization that focuses on higher education institutes. ARWU is considered one of the most influential and widely recognized university rankings in the world. Every year it reviews about 1,000 universities and educational institutes from all over the world.
Shanghai ranking consultancy (ARWU) has received positive feedback for its methodology and objectivity but was widely criticized by many institutions as it uses the size of institutions as one of the standards to rank the universities and resulting in larger institutions tend to secure rank above smaller ones which seems unfair.
In the world universities ranking , Harvard University has secured the first position in the list of the best universities in the world with Stanford rated second and the University of Cambridge got the third position in the list. Most importantly In the top 10 Universities, two are from the UK while the rest eight universities are from the United States.
