A mixture of sulphur and carbon disulphide is:
a) homogeneous and shows Tyndall effect
b) heterogeneous and shows Tyndall effect
c) heterogeneous and does not show Tyndall effect
d) homogeneous and does not show Tyndall effect
The correct answer is b) heterogeneous and shows Tyndall effect
Let us see why so?
We know that S(Sulphur) and CS2(Carbon Disulphide) do not form a uniform composition so it forms a heterogeneous solution.
And in water CS2 settles down as the bottom layer and sulfur remains suspended in the solution forming a colloidal solution thus being able to show tyndall effect.
Therefore, a mixture of sulphur and carbon disulphide is heterogeneous in nature and shows the Tyndall effect.
